Karina talks about the struggles of a single mother at “Usagi Drop” screening

As reported earlier, on June 13th at Shibuya Cinequest in Tokyo, actress Karina (27) appeared at the special screening for “Usagi Drop”.

Karina will take on the role of a single mother as “Nitani Yukari”, and stated, “I can now understand the hardships of a single mother because they have to work while dropping off kids at nursery school and picking them up. I honestly wish that single mothers can one day live in peaceful environments in this society.”

The most difficult scene for her to play was when her character, “Felt the distance between her son, Kouki, and could not connect emotionally with him.” She continued, “This is the first time in a role as a mother did I completely grasp the complex situation of a single mother.”

Sato Ruiki (6), who played as her on-screen son, commented, “I like Karina because she is nice and pretty.  On my birthday, I received a watch from her. I will definitely treasure it!” As for his role, “I did my best to play as a boy who wants to protect his mother, just as the director asked me to do!” This comment impressed the adults around him at the press conference.

“Usagi Drop” will be available in movie theaters in Japan starting from August 20th.
